LASIK and Refractive Surgery

Lasik is a popular type of refractive surgery designed to correct common vision problems such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. During LASIK, a thin flap is created on the cornea, which is then lifted to allow an excimer laser to reshape the underlying corneal tissue. This precise reshaping aims to improve how light focuses on the retina, thereby reducing or eliminating the need for glasses or contact lenses.

How does Lasik and Refractive Surgery Work?
  •  A super thin flap is made on the surface of the cornea using a microkeratome or femtosecond laser.
  • An excimer laser swoops to precisely take away some of that tissue, reshaping the cornea to deal with those vision problems.  the flap goes back into place all by itself without any stitches needed, giving you back your clear vision in no time.
  • PRK (Photorefractive Keratectomy) involve completely removing the outerp layer of the cornea before doing the laser reshaping.
Procedures for Treatment
  • Initially, you’ll undergo a comprehensive eye examination to assess your eye health, determine your prescription, and evaluate the thickness and shape of your cornea.
  • During the LASIK procedure itself, which typically takes around 15 minutes per eye, you’ll be positioned comfortably under a laser system. After numbing eye drops are applied to prevent discomfort, a small device will hold your eyelids open. Your surgeon will use either a microkeratome or a femtosecond laser to create a thin flap on the surface of your cornea. This flap is gently folded back to expose the underlying corneal tissue.
Suitability for Lasik Treatment

Age: LASIK candidates should generally be at least 18 years old.

Health Condition: Patients should be in good health, free from chronic illnesses that could impair healing or increase the risk of complications.

Vision Stability: Should have stable vision for at least one year before the surgery. Significant changes in vision indicate that the eyes are still changing, which could affect the outcome of the surgery.

  • Improved Vision Quality:

  • Convenience and Lifestyle Enhancement: Long-lasting Results:

  • Predictability and Precision:

  • Safety:

  • Increased Self-confidence:

  • Versatility

Recovery Process after Surgery
  • Immediately after the procedure, your vision may be blurry or hazy, but it should improve within hours.
  • Mild discomfort or a gritty sensation in the eyes is common and can be managed with prescribed eye drops.
  • Resting at home is recommended initially, avoiding strenuous activities, driving, or using screens extensively.
  • You’ll have a follow-up appointment the next day to check your vision and monitor healing. During the first week, your vision will continue to improve, although some fluctuation may occur. It’s essential to use prescribed eye drops as directed and avoid rubbing your eyes.
